ABOUT CUSTOM STOCKDOGS     

We started our breeding program with Kenneth's father, Henry Kuykendall's lines. These were dogs he had been very successful with both in making his living on farms and ranches and also competing in trials and giving demonstrations.  See more about this on our foundation lines page.

Our foundation bitches were full sisters bred from "Kuykendall's Joe" & "Kuykendall's Salt".  "Joe" & "Salt" were both from Henry's original lines he started with in the 1960's.  These powerful dogs trace back to some of the Border Collies brought into this country by Arthur Allen and Carol Shaffner.  Henry provided all of his family with Border Collies to use and breed as well as family companions.  These dogs are in the Kuykendall family blood and great genetics are in the dogs' blood.

While Kenneth had "Salt" she was mated to "Joe" several times.  This produced not only our foundation females pictured below but also Kent Kuykendall's "Pal" and Henry Kuykendall's "Loch".  "Loch" was a littermate to Callie and the dam of Kent's "Jet".  Kent trialed both "Pal" and "Jet" successfully.  Those of you that were privileged to see "Pal" & "Jet" work know the type of dogs we like.  Thus our slogan "Tough enough for any task".  Jet was pictured on the cover of The Ranch Dog Trainer working cattle a few years back.

"Callie" was Joyce's first dog.  "Pepper" was from one of the first litters bred and raised by Custom Stockdogs.  Pictured below are "Custom Stockdogs Callie" & "Custom Stockdogs Pepper" our foundation females.  All of the dogs we have come from these two sisters.

Henry Kuykendall's "Jim" is from a mating of "Kuykendall's Kate", another full sister to these, to "Imported Cap."  Until his recent retirement "Jim" was Henry's most powerful worker.

We at Custom Stockdogs believe in our strong female base and only breed to the best outcrosses we can find.  The dam of these foundation females, "Salt" is also the dam of Gwen Kuykendall's "Paige".  She in turn is the dam of Kent's "Bill".  Bill is a past recipient of the prestigious Purina Field Trial Dog of the Year award.  Their sire "Joe" is a son of Henry's "Chuck" & "Katie".  Kent's first bitch "Pepper" was a full sister to "Joe". 

Both of these females have made their mark on our breeding program but the most recognized name for those of you that are familiar with us is "Custom Stockdogs Mable".  "Mable" was a daughter of "Callie" and a very significant female in our line of dogs.  More information and pictures of our dogs are provided in the links.
